Tip #1: Let go. If you haven’t used it until now, you will not need it in your new place.
Then Pack a “First Day Essentials” box filled with the things you’ll need most once you arrive at your new home. For example, we would normally fill this box with a flashlight, a couple bottled waters, trash bags, box cutters, disinfectant wipes, a First aid kit, medicine, paper towels, toilet paper, paper plates, paper cups, plastic ware, hand & dish soap.
You might want to place this box in your car so there is no chance of it getting lost amongst the boxes.
Tip #2: Use plastic wrap or paper & tape to wrap silverware trays. This keeps all the flatware together and helps expedite the unpacking process!
Tip #3: Use Ziploc/plastic bags to keep kitchen and bathroom drawer things together. It’s so much easier to unpack when all the small items from a drawer are together!
Tip #4: Save space by packing spices in a large pot or slow cooker. This tip can really be applied towards any large item like trash cans, laundry baskets, etc. Fill them up with smaller items!
Tip #5: Use cardboard dish pack partitions to pack breakables. They are perfect to insert inside moving boxes and protect glass cups and dishes from breaking. Find these at your local U-Haul, Staples or even sometimes on Craigslist for FREE.
Tip #6: If you have toys already organized in bins like these, just use shrink/plastic wrap to secure them before packing. This way, you won’t have to reorganize them when you are unpacking.
Tip #7: Tape off all items that can spill, like liquid soaps, shampoo, cleaners, cooking oils, etc
